Né le 25 Janvier 1916 dans l'Etat du Michigan, il est le fils d'Herman Masalski et d'Albina Stekowski, tous deux sont des immigrants polonais.
Il est le frère de Paul (Polish), Alexander (Polish), Helen (Polish) & Edouard J. (American). En 1930, la famille vie au 339 Jackson Street à Grand Rapids. Herman est ouvrier dans un brasserie de bière, Paul est ouvrier dans une usine d'ameublement. Alexander est ouvirer dans une usine automobile et Helen travaille dans une laverie. En 1940, la famille Masalski vie au 858 Jackson street à Grand-Rapids. Heman est concierge, Paul et Henry sont opérateurs sur machine dans l'industrie de l'ameublement, Alexander est receptioniste dans un restaurant et Edouard est "finisseur" dans une fabrique de meuble. le 09 Novembre 1940, Henry Masalski épouse Thérèse Liszewski à Grand-Rapids. Ils partent vivre au 801 Sixth Street N.W à Grand-Rapids et ont un enfant: Anita qui nait en 1941. En 1942, Henry est noté comme étant ouvrier en usine. Il s'enrôle le 07 Avril 1944 à Grand-Rapids sous le matricule #9521455. Il effectue ses classes à Boston (Massachussett) puis est affecté sur l'U.S.S Underhill le 26 Octobre 1944 comme pompier de 1e classe. Il sera promu à différents rang: pompier, Stewart, Electricien... Quand l'U.S.S Underhill à été coulé, Henry est porté disparu, personne ne sait ce qui lui arriva. Il est finalement déclaré mort le 30 Août 1945. Son nom est noté dans le registre "World War II Navy, Marine Corps, and Coast Guard Casualties, 1941-1945" comme étant tué en action. De même sur le registre "World War II and Korean Conflict Veterans Interred Overseas" où il est noté comme disparu au 24 Juillet 195. Ainsi que sur le registre "U.S WWII Military Personnel Missing in Action or lost at Sea, 1941-1946" et sur celui du "U.S WWII Military Personnel Missing in Action or lost at Sea, 1941-1946" là aussi comme étant porté disparu au 24/07/45. Et sur le “U.S Rosters of World War II Dead, 1939-1945.” Son nom est inscrit sur le mémorial du Fort William McKinley à Manille. Une stèle en sa mémoire est installé au Holy Cross Cemetery de Grand-Rapids. |
