Joseph John Malski est né le 07 Mars 1925 à Grand-Rapids, il est le fils de John Malski et de Rose Naowak.
Il est le frère de Betty (1924), John (1926) & Raymond (1929) En 1930, la famille Malski vie au 417 Watson Street S.W à Grand-Rapids. John est décorateur pour une fabrique de meubles. En 1940, la famille à changée d'adresse, maintenant ils vivent au 1 116 Watson Street à Grand-Rapids. John Sr est peintre pour une fabrique de meuble. Joseph Jr, effectue ses études au Sacred Heart School puis après son diplôme, part travailler au "American Seatling Co." Le 24 Mai 1943, dans les bureaux de Kalamazoo, John Jr s'engage dans la Navy comme marin de 2e classe sous le matricule #8612701. Il fait ses classes à Pleasanton (Californie) puis est assigné sur l'U.S.S Indianapolis le 01 Septembre 1943. Il est promu Marin de 1e classe au 01 Juillet 1944. John Jr est sur l'Indianapolis quand le bateau est torpillé. Après 5 jours d'horreur, il est secouru. Ses parents sont informés du drame et de son état par télégramme. John est évacué sur l'Île de Guam puis rapatrié dans un hôpital militaire à San-Francisco. Il est finalement démobilisé le 04 Mars 1946. Le 27 Novembre 1951, John Malski épouse Barbara Blozinski à Grand Rapids. Il décédera le 04 Novembre 1980 à l'âge de 55 ans. Il est enterré au Holy Cross Cemetery à Grand Rapids. |
