Charles Marciulaitis est né vers 1914 à Sheboygan dans l'Etat du Wisconsin.
Il est le fils d'Anthony Marciulaitis et de Margaret Sultis, tous deux des immigrés lituaniens. Frère de Nellie & Mary A. En 1930, la famille Marciulaitis vie au 1 309 Front Avenue à Grand Rapids. Charles étudiera à l'Union High School. Anthony décède en 1933. le 12 Novembre 1938, Charles épouse Alice T. Toposlki à Grand Rapids. Il est employé à General Motors Co. Tous deux vivent au 1 042 Fifth Street N.W à Grand Rapids. Charles s'enrôle dans la Navy dans les bureau de Kalamazoo, sous le matricule #8612706. La même année, Alice donne naissance à leurs premier enfant: une petite fille nommée Joan Ellen. Charles fait ses classes au Anti-Aircraft Training Center à Waianae sur l'île d'Oahu à Hawaï. Il est assigné sur l'U.S.S Indianapolis le 1e Septembre 1943 et est promu marin de 1e Classe le 01 Mai 1944. Dans la dernière lettre qui écrira à son épouse qu'il va bientôt être promu tireur de 3e classe. Cette promotion sera effective au 01 Août 1944. Il disparait dans le naufrage de son navire. Son nom est inscrit sur le tableau des disparus du Manila American Cemetery à Manille. |
